I. Introduction: The Power of Thought
Have you ever been asked: “What are you thinking about?”
Often we answer: “Nothing” - yet thought life is deeply influential.
Where is your thought life grounded?
II. The Power of Words and Thoughts
Words shape our lives:
Proverbs 18:21 - “The tongue has the power of life and death.”
Wrong words destroy; right words uplift.
Examples:
Wrong words → fear, insecurity, crushed dreams.
Right words → hope, value, salvation from mistakes.
Proverbs 15:4 – “The soothing tongue is a tree of life…”
Matthew 15:10–11 - “You are defiled by the words that come out of your mouth.”
III. Beyond Words: The Power of Thought Life
Thoughts are just as powerful as words.
Proverbs 23:7 – “As he thinks in his heart, so is he.”
We must examine our entire thought life, not just passing thoughts.
IV. Scripture: Renewing the Mind and Heart
Romans 12:1-2 – “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”
Our thought life determines:
What we believe
How we respond
How we interpret the world
Thought life = default mental filter of life.
V. Examples of Mental Filters
Negative mindset despite blessings → “Always on the losing side.”
Misinterpreting others due to inner narratives → “What do you mean by ‘G’day’?”
Positive mindset → always believing the best, encouraging others.
Romans 8:5-6 - “To set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace…”
The mind determines direction and peace.
VI. Spiritual Warfare Begins in the Mind
2 Corinthians 10:3-6 - “Take every thought captive to obey Christ…”
Thoughts can be:
Strongholds
Arguments against God’s truth
Treat thoughts like enemies -capture and make them obey Christ.
Thoughts may arrive uninvited - but we choose what we dwell on.
Philippians 4:6-7 - “Let the peace of God guard your hearts and minds…”
VI. We Have the Mind of Christ
1 Corinthians 2:16 - “We have the mind of Christ.”
Helmet of salvation - protects the mind in spiritual battle.
2 Timothy 1:7 - “God has not given us a spirit of fear… but of a sound mind.”
We are not victims - we are overcomers.
Matthew 12:34 - “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”
Our thoughts reflect:
Our identity in Christ
Our relationship with God
It’s not just about knowing who you are, but whose you are.
Philippians 4:8-9 - Think on these things: true, noble, just, pure, lovely…
Right thinking leads to right living -and the peace of God will be with you.
Conclusion:
What are you thinking about?
Where are your thoughts taking you?
Train your mind to dwell on Christ.
Replace negative, destructive filters with truth, faith, and God’s Word.
